DEVOTIONAL DAY # 12 RECOVERING THE CAPTIVE

1 Peter 5 8

Scripture Reading: Genesis 14:14-16, 1 Peter 5:8(NIV)

Genesis 14:14-16 (NIV)
14 When Abram heard that his relative had been taken captive, he called out the 318 trained men born in his household and went in pursuit as far as Dan. 15 During the night Abram divided his men to attack them and he routed them, pursuing them as far as Hobah, north of Damascus. 16 He recovered all the goods and brought back his relative Lot and his possessions, together with the women and the other people.

Key Verses: Genesis 14:14(NIV)
14 When Abram heard that his relative had been taken captive, he called out the 318 trained men born in his household and went in pursuit as far as Dan.

When Abram found out that his relative (Lot) was in trouble being held captive, he took action immediately despite the obstacles that were before him. The terrain nor the distance was going to keep him from trying to save his nephew and his family. In the end not only did he rescue Lot and his entire family bringing his possessions back he also rescued others. This happened because Abram had the courage to stand up to evil and because his nephew was important to him. After reading that scripture it led me to ask this question of us today.

Are we willing to have the courage, patience and endurance that Abram had in order to save our love ones or those we are close to from captivity of Satan and his lies? Are we willing to help pull them out of whatever bondage Satan have them in? Are we truly aware of the meaning of 1 Peter 1 Peter 5:8?

1 Peter 5:8(NIV)
8 Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.

We are truly at a time and place in this world where we need to strap on our flood boots and pull out our shovel’s getting submerged into the trenches to help those that are stuck in what they feel like is quick sand. It’s also time for us all to take 1 Peter 5:8 so serious that our lives reflect it.

Lord help me to be aware of those hurting around me and help me to be aware of Satan attacks on me. Lord I pray for those who are held captive praying that they will come to their senses and escape from the trap of the devil, who has taken them captive to do his will in Jesus name Amen.
