Scripture Reading: Matthew 5:23-25

Key Verses: Genesis 16:6-10
Your slave is in your hands,” Abram said. “Do with her whatever you think best.” Then Sarai mistreated Hagar; so she fled from her. The angel of the Lord found Hagar near a spring in the desert; it was the spring that is beside the road to Shur. And he said, “Hagar, slave of Sarai, where have you come from, and where are you going?” “I’m running away from my mistress Sarai,” she answered. Then the angel of the Lord told her, “Go back to your mistress and submit to her.” The angel added, “I will increase your descendants so much that they will be too numerous to count.”

When we encounter a problem or a hurdle in our life that we find challenging a lot of times we try to do two things.
1- We try to run from it instead of facing it head on.
2- When the fire dies down we try to sweep it under the rug or ignore it only for it to resurface back into our lives at some point.

Hagar had the same idea we have most of the time. See Hagar in an attempt to run away from her problem ran without direction instead of facing it head on. No matter how are she would have gotten her problem still would have existed. Her running wouldn’t have changed the fact that she was a pregnant maidservant. If she continued to run she could’ve missed out on being provided for and could have possible lost more if she would have stayed on the run. She could’ve lost her life and her blessing.

Matthew 5:23-25
“Therefore, if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother or sister has something against you; leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled to them; then come and offer your gift. “Settle matters quickly with your adversary who is taking you to court. Do it while you are still together on the way, or your adversary may hand you over to the judge, and the judge may hand you over to the officer, and you may be thrown into prison.

What are you running from in your life that you need to face head on? Who do you need to reconcile with before matters get worse that you know you should? No matter how difficult a situation maybe facing it head on may not only allow God to delivery you, but also provide a blessing for you. (Remember Hagar was provided for by God upon her return.)

Dear Lord, please show me what I’m running from in my life instead of facing it head on, and Lord when you make it clear to me, please see me through the parts that may hurt and allow me to humbly get through.
