What’s Jesus will for your life? It’s giving up whatever there is in your life that is truly keeping you from following him or drawing closer to him. Will it cost you something? Yes!!! How do we know that to be true? Lets take a look at a scripture.

Mark 10:17-22

17 As Jesus started on his way, a man ran up to him and fell on his knees before him. “Good teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?” 18 “Why do you call me good?” Jesus answered. “No one is good—except God alone. 19 You know the commandments: ‘You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony, you shall not defraud, honor your father and mother. 20 “Teacher,” he declared, “all these I have kept since I was a boy.” 21 Jesus looked at him and loved him. “One thing you lack,” he said. “Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” 22 At this the man’s face fell. He went away sad, because he had great wealth.

Jesus wanted this young man to give up his wealth not to deprive him of anything. He wanted him to give it up because he knew that his wealth had a strong hold on him. He wanted him to become a better person and by giving up his wealth that would allowed him to grow. Jesus wasn’t asking everyone to give up their wealth why? Because everyone didn’t struggle with that issue. Sadly the young man decided to hold on to his wealth which was something too hard for him to do. Sadly it had no eternal value and he missed out on an opportunity to draw closer to Jesus.

You may say, I’m not sure what’s keeping me from drawing closer to him. Just know that it’s closer to the surface than you know. You won’t have to dig to keep to find it, why? Because you already know!!!

Are you willing to give up whatever that’s keeping you from drawing closer to Jesus? Or are you going to be like the rich young man and refuse his offer and instead hold on to something that’s not everlasting?
