LESSONS LEARNED FROM THE STORY OF JOSEPH

Two quick points about Joseph I’m on the road. 1 It’s amazing how Jacob being a Hebrew living in Egypt for 17 years was honored (mourned) by the Egyptians after his death. I believe Jacob during his time there, must have had an impact of the Egyptians that he encountered. So much that they mourned him for 70 days and Pharoah sent his dignitaries and officials with Joseph to Canaan to bury his father. After researching that was about 250 mile trip.

Genesis 50:2-3 NIV
Then Joseph directed the physicians in his service to embalm his father Israel. So the physicians embalmed him, taking a full forty days, for that was the time required for embalming. And the Egyptians mourned for him seventy days.
2- Accept forgiveness from your self and others. Don’t hold onto unforgiveness because it can haunt you. That’s what happened to Joseph’s brothers. After their father died they thought Joseph would punish them. So for 17 years that held that burden. When they told Joseph what they were feeling he wept. Why? Because he was saddened by the fact that after all these years they really never believed in their heart that he forgave them and they never forgave themselves. And in his heart that was old news.

Genesis 50:15-20 NIV
When Joseph’s brothers saw that their father was dead, they said, “What if Joseph holds a grudge against us and pays us back for all the wrongs we did to him?” So they sent word to Joseph, saying, “Your father left these instructions before he died: ‘This is what you are to say to Joseph: I ask you to forgive your brothers the sins and the wrongs they committed in treating you so badly.’ Now please forgive the sins of the servants of the God of your father.” When their message came to him, Joseph wept.   His brothers then came and threw themselves down before him. “We are your slaves,” they said.   But Joseph said to them, “Don’t be afraid. Am I in the place of God? You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.

So what kind of impact are you leaving on those around you and are you willing to forgive and accept forgiveness?

I pray that if you don’t know Christ, that you come to know him and accept him as your Lord and saviour and believe that he died for your sins and rose on the third day in Jesus name amen! !
