Setting a godly example is very important when it comes to your family. It can go a long way. The Bible doesn’t always tell us everyone’s story exactly. But given what it does, we can sometimes imagine what someones life looked liked. Just given the short verses on Enoch, Methuselah, and Lamech. One can take that Enoch was a good spiritual role model for his son Methuselah who passed it on to Lamech who passed it on to Noah. Lamech had to have a good relationship with God and I will show you how and why I think that to be the case. Genesis 5:28-29 NIV When Lamech had lived 182 years, he had a son. He named him Noah and said, “He will comfort us in the labor and painful toil of our hands caused by the ground the Lord has cursed.” From this verse we can tell he was in communication with God knowing what was to come. We also can take away the fact the his father Methuselah passed on his faith to him that he got from his father Enoch, who walked with God and was no more. The bible says Noah like his great great grandfather walked with God. Something else we can learn is that no matter what your family background or reputation is you still can succeed. Ham the son of Noah was cursed by his father because he saw his fathers nakedness. Hams grandson Nimrod whose father was Cush didn’t allow that to affect him. Genesis 10:8-9 NIV Cush was the father of Nimrod, who became a mighty warrior on the earth. He was a mighty hunter before the Lord ; that is why it is said, “Like Nimrod, a mighty hunter before the Lord .”
Quick points from Acts chapter 12 we can be encouraged by.
1. CONSISTANT PRAYER WORKS
Acts 12:5-7 5 So Peter was kept in prison, but the church was earnestly praying to God for him. 6 The night before Herod was to bring him to trial, Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains, and sentries stood guard at the entrance. 7 Suddenly an angel of the Lord appeared and a light shone in the cell. He struck Peter on the side and woke him up. “Quick, get up!” he said, and the chains fell off Peter’s wrists.
2.GOD IS A RESCUER IN OUR TIME OF NEED AND HE ALWAYS FIND AWAY.
Acts 12:8-10 8 Then the angel said to him, “Put on your clothes and sandals.” And Peter did so. “Wrap your cloak around you and follow me,” the angel told him. 9 Peter followed him out of the prison, but he had no idea that what the angel was doing was really happening; he thought he was seeing a vision. 10 They passed the first and second guards and came to the iron gate leading to the city. It opened for them by itself, and they went through it. When they had walked the length of one street, suddenly the angel left him.
3. A PRAYER ANSWERED BRINGS JOY AND EXCITEMENT
Acts 12:13-14 13 Peter knocked at the outer entrance, and a servant named Rhoda came to answer the door. 14 When she recognized Peter’s voice, she was so overjoyed she ran back without opening it and exclaimed, “Peter is at the door!”
4.GOD CAN PERFORM MIRACLES THAT NO ONE CAN EXPLAIN
Acts 12:15 15 “You’re out of your mind,” they told her. When she kept insisting that it was so, they said, “It must be his angel. Acts 12:19 19 After Herod had a thorough search made for him and did not find him, he cross-examined the guards and ordered that they be executed. Herod could not find any explanation of what had happened so to make himself feel better he had the guards killed. That’s what type of miracles God can do for each and everyone on of us through the power of prayer!!!!
