I have heard people ask this question about baptism and the Holy Spirit. Can you receive the Holy Spirit before baptism and have there ever been anyone who has. I hope these scriptures can answer that question to those who are not sure. Luke 1:41 NIV When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. Luke 1:67 NIV His father Zechariah was filled with the Holy Spirit and prophesied: Acts 10:44-48 NIV While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit came on all who heard the message. The circumcised believers who had come with Peter were astonished that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on Gentiles. For they heard them speaking in tongues and praising God. Then Peter said, “Surely no one can stand in the way of their being baptized with water. They have received the Holy Spirit just as we have.” So he ordered that they be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they asked Peter to stay with them for a few days. In all 3 cases they were filled with the Holy Spirit before baptism and in Cornelius and his family case they also was able to through the spirit speak in tongues. Here are five quick points.
As I was taking a look deep into the Holy Spirit. These are some characteristics of the Holy Spirit that I found.
1-IT SPEAKS- Acts 13:2-2 While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.”
2-IT DIRECTS- Acts 13:4-4 The two of them, sent on their way by the Holy Spirit, went down to Seleucia and sailed from there to Cyprus.
3-IT COMES WITH JOY- Acts 13:52-52 And the disciples were filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit.
4-IT COMES WITH A CHANGE- Acts 19:6-6 When Paul placed his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke in tongues[a] and prophesied.
5-IT PROVIDE WARNINGS- Acts 20:23- 23 I only know that in every city the Holy Spirit warns me that prison and hardships are facing me.
Here are three quick points from Noah that can be encouraging to all of us. 1- GOD PROVIDES PROTECTION. Genesis 7:23- Every living thing on the face of the earth was wiped out; me and animals and creatures that move along the ground and the birds of the air were wiped from the earth. Only Noah was left, and those with him in the ark. 2- GOD NEVER FORGETS US. Genesis 8:1- But God remembered Noah and all the wild animals and the livestock that were with him in the ark, and sent a wind over the earth, and the waters receded. Lastly 3-GOD CAN CLOSE OBSTACLES WE MAY FACE- Genesis 8:2- Now the springs of the deep and the floodgates of the heavens had been closed, and the rain had stopped falling from the sky.
I pray that these quick points can be encouraging and a blessing to you and these scriptures can help those who need it to in Jesus name Amen!!!
