PLEASE KNOW (YOU’RE NOT ALONE)

When Job faced adversity God didn’t rush to his aid immediately!! He allowed a growth process to take place. Even though it took God 38 chapters before he spoke he was right there with Job the entire time. When you encounter hardship please know YOU’RE NOT ALONE.

ARE YOU A GATEKEEPER?

The Gate KeeperWhen you hear the word gatekeeper what’s the first thing that comes to mind? Websters dictionary’s definition of a gatekeeper says it’s 1: an attendant at a gate who is employed to control who goes through it. 2: a person or thing that controls access to something. Now knowing the definition for what a gatekeeper is according to Websters dictionary. Do you believe you are a gatekeeper? If you answered no to that question, after reading this you may reconsider. So where and when did gatekeepers come into existence? The gatekeepers responsibilities started thousands of years ago in the Bible. This job was a huge responsibility that God put on some of the chosen Levite’s that required trust and accountability. If you were picked to handle this duty everyone knew that you had to be trust worthy person because your main job was to guard the gates of the house of the Lord on all four sides and to maintain the rooms and the treasuries within it. You also were responsible for articles used in the temple and the furnishings of the temple. In order to give you a better picture of where I’m going with this and how it relates to you. I’m going to share with you some scriptures from the Bible.

1 Chronicles 9:22-27 New International Version (NIV)

22 Altogether, those chosen to be gatekeepers at the thresholds numbered 212. They were registered by genealogy in their villages. The gatekeepers had been assigned to their positions of trust by David and Samuel the seer. 23 They and their descendants were in charge of guarding the gates of the house of the Lord—the house called the tent of meeting. 24 The gatekeepers were on the four sides: east, west, north and south. 25 Their fellow Levites in their villages had to come from time to time and share their duties for seven-day periods. 26 But the four principal gatekeepers, who were Levites, were entrusted with the responsibility for the rooms and treasuries in the house of God. 27 They would spend the night stationed around the house of God, because they had to guard it; and they had charge of the key for opening it each morning.

After reading the scriptures do you believe you’re a gatekeeper? The magic answer to that question should be yes and here’s why. God has given us in our lives multiple responsibilities here on Earth. We are the gatekeepers of our homes, communities, place of employment, churches and every other area of our lives that we are responsible for. We are to monitor and be responsible for what we allow in and out of our homes, communities, churches and so on. God has entrusted these things into our care and it’s our responsibility to do good-by them. So are you a gatekeeper? Yes, so embrace it!!

PROBLEM

JUST BE YOU

Be yourselfIf you don’t know your true identity you may find yourself trying to be someone else. Instead of trying to be someone else just be you. Who are you? Psalm 139:14-17 New International Version 14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;your works are wonderful, I know that full well. So be-careful who you try to imitate because that person may not be who God called you to be.

2 Kings 17:15 New International Version (NIV)

15 They rejected his decrees and the covenant he had made with their ancestors and the statutes he had warned them to keep. They followed worthless idols and themselves became worthless. They imitated the nations around them although the Lord had ordered them, “Do not do as they do.”

If you’re looking for someone worthy of imitating, imitate Christ!!!

A SERVANT HEART CAUSES A GODLY REWARD

GivingAs we celebrated Veterans Day yesterday a thought came to my mind. What if all the men and women who served including myself were to busy and never served. What if our Law Enforcement community were too busy to serve? What kind of impact or affect would that have on us today. What type of situation would we be in. Lately God has been pressing upon my heart to serve more and encourage others to serve. I truly believe that a lot of us want to use our time-serving others but we’re so busy. So busy that we can’t give just a little of our time to those who may need it. When we serve others we’re showing them that their important and worth our time.

I know that this is something that’s on Gods heart because just this morning a good friend of mine out of the blue as I was preparing to write this, shared what God put on her heart how she could serve others. She decided that she was going to put care packages together for the homeless and hand them out and this is what they look like.
Care Package 1 Care Package 2

This young lady is super busy just like everyone else but she made time. I know because of this other’s are going to be blessed and God is going to bless her back in return for her obedience and sacrifice. Jesus served others in so many ways and one of them was with his time. Jesus used his time to encourage others, to pray for others, to heal others, to teach others, to feed others and to bless others. Allowing God to use us to serve others not only provides a blessing for them but also to us. I would like to share a story in the Bible about a woman with a servant’s heart that blessed others not knowing in the end that her willingness to serve would end up blessing her. I would encourage you to read the scriptures in its entirety to feel the true power that comes with serving others.

2 Kings 4:8-36 New International Version (NIV)

8 One day Elisha went to Shunem. And a well-to-do woman was there, who urged him to stay for a meal. So whenever he came by, he stopped there to eat. 9 She said to her husband, “I know that this man who often comes our way is a holy man of God. 10 Let’s make a small room on the roof and put in it a bed and a table, a chair and a lamp for him. Then he can stay there whenever he comes to us.”

11 One day when Elisha came, he went up to his room and lay down there. 12 He said to his servant Gehazi, “Call the Shunammite.” So he called her, and she stood before him. 13 Elisha said to him, “Tell her, ‘You have gone to all this trouble for us. Now what can be done for you? Can we speak on your behalf to the king or the commander of the army?’”

She replied, “I have a home among my own people.”

14 “What can be done for her?” Elisha asked.

Gehazi said, “She has no son, and her husband is old.”

15 Then Elisha said, “Call her.” So he called her, and she stood in the doorway. 16 “About this time next year,” Elisha said, “you will hold a son in your arms.”

“No, my lord!” she objected. “Please, man of God, don’t mislead your servant!”

17 But the woman became pregnant, and the next year about that same time she gave birth to a son, just as Elisha had told her.

18 The child grew, and one day he went out to his father, who was with the reapers. 19 He said to his father, “My head! My head!”

His father told a servant, “Carry him to his mother.” 20 After the servant had lifted him up and carried him to his mother, the boy sat on her lap until noon, and then he died. 21 She went up and laid him on the bed of the man of God, then shut the door and went out.

22 She called her husband and said, “Please send me one of the servants and a donkey so I can go to the man of God quickly and return.”

23 “Why go to him today?” he asked. “It’s not the New Moon or the Sabbath.”

“That’s all right,” she said.

24 She saddled the donkey and said to her servant, “Lead on; don’t slow down for me unless I tell you.” 25 So she set out and came to the man of God at Mount Carmel.

When he saw her in the distance, the man of God said to his servant Gehazi, “Look! There’s the Shunammite! 26 Run to meet her and ask her, ‘Are you all right? Is your husband all right? Is your child all right?’”

“Everything is all right,” she said.

27 When she reached the man of God at the mountain, she took hold of his feet. Gehazi came over to push her away, but the man of God said, “Leave her alone! She is in bitter distress, but the Lord has hidden it from me and has not told me why.”

28 “Did I ask you for a son, my lord?” she said. “Didn’t I tell you, ‘Don’t raise my hopes’?”

29 Elisha said to Gehazi, “Tuck your cloak into your belt, take my staff in your hand and run. Don’t greet anyone you meet, and if anyone greets you, do not answer. Lay my staff on the boy’s face.”

30 But the child’s mother said, “As surely as the Lord lives and as you live, I will not leave you.” So he got up and followed her.

31 Gehazi went on ahead and laid the staff on the boy’s face, but there was no sound or response. So Gehazi went back to meet Elisha and told him, “The boy has not awakened.”

32 When Elisha reached the house, there was the boy lying dead on his couch. 33 He went in, shut the door on the two of them and prayed to the Lord. 34 Then he got on the bed and lay on the boy, mouth to mouth, eyes to eyes, hands to hands. As he stretched himself out on him, the boy’s body grew warm. 35 Elisha turned away and walked back and forth in the room and then got on the bed and stretched out on him once more. The boy sneezed seven times and opened his eyes.

36 Elisha summoned Gehazi and said, “Call the Shunammite.” And he did. When she came, he said, “Take your son.”

This Shunammite woman was not serving others to be blessed, but God blessed her anyway because of her heart and compassion to serve others. So I challenge you to find a way to serve others not looking for something in return but instead looking to bless others. Then watch God turn around and blessed you because of your pure and servant heart.
